Update 9/16/08 - Clinical Trial

Dear KK Fans, I haven't updated in awhile as there were some changes to treatment options for KK that we were waiting to see somethings... well at the last minute before they were to begin the next step in KK's treatment that consisted of taking out one lobe of his lung and more chemo and some laser ablations of tumors they got a call from their team at Children's. The team had found a new clinical trial that had jsut opened for kids and that KK was eligible for it. They had to make a snap decision in two days, so we had a bit of a family meeting and everyone agreed that the trial was the way to go but ultimately it was Alanna and Richards tough decision. They chose to enroll KK in the trial. The trial consists of a ton of tests and a daily chemo pill with the potential for some not pleasant side effects. The first phase of the trial that KK was enrolled in was to study some of the side effects but also to find the correct dosages for kids with this particual type of drug as it has been very successful in treating some cancers like Kelton's. He's been on it now for a few weeks and the side effects are much worse then expected. KK is in constant pain with blisters and sores on his hands, feet and face and his Blood pressure is very high. He's on pain medication, but even that doesn't help much. They have now stopped the medication to let him heal the sores and blisters and then they will start a lower dosage. They don't know if the drug is doing what it's supposed to yet as they haven't had any scans to find out. Everyone please pass the word that KK and family need your support, love and prayers to help them through this tough times.
