Let's get reeeaaaaaady to rummmmmmmmmmmmmbble.... Kelton started the day off with a healthy appetite! He had a big breakfast at about 6AM then faced the extra long commute from Everett to Children's Hospital in Seattle. Once there for the 8AM appointment they got to work with the Physial Therapist and KK was issued crutches as his leg is starting to be symptomatic and they want to keep pressure off of it. Then he ate some more before his Chemo got underway. They did 3 separate rounds today. For those of you, like me, that are medically interested the Chemo medications they are using are a combination of Avastin,Gemcitabine and Cisplatin. In addition to those medications he also had some anti nausea medications such as Ondansetron. You've probably all also see ads on TV for Neulasta which he received to boost his immune system and protect against infection.
(In my best "Mr." McMahon voice) In the RRRRRRight corner we have ~100 lb KELTON "KKaaaaaaaaaY "LIIIIITTLE and in the wrong...er I mean left..no I mean wrong! corner is Chemo!!! So, here's how the day went down... The 1st round was about 2 hours in length delivered via the PICC line. They put some lidocaine lotion around the area and inserted about an inch long needle but that didn't seem to reach the line, so they pulled out a 1 1/2" needle and that did the trick though it creeped Mom and Dad out a bit, KK didn't feel any pain. They made it through that round without any incident and got to watch Ghostbusters (Are you the Keymaster?) and play some games while getting "flushed" with IV fluids and prepping for the next round. KK then ate a good lunch and got ready for round 2. That round was also uneventful with no discomfort or any negative side affects. Though throughout the day KK had pain in his leg and knee and was given some pain meds for that, without much relief. They also treated that with a pretty cool ice pack that we decided would also make a good drink holder, just fill it with liquid tie it around your neck and poke a straw in it like a giant juice bag :-) but on to round 3, with this round Kelton did get nauseous and dizzy so they decided to keep him overnight. They gave him some medications to help with the nausea and to help him rest and relax which he did. He got a nice nap. Uncles D and Mike, Auntie Chirsty and Keshia all showed up to visit and KK got an extra special balloon from Uncle D.
Richard and Alanna expressed their sincere gratitude and asked me to pass that on to all of you dedicated readers and prayers out there. KK was very brave and jovial today and he believes that God wants him to fight this with all he has and he is committed to it! So while there were challenges and some discomfort for KK I say that KK is Knocking this out and won all 3 rounds, hands down today!!! We're all proud of you Kelton!! Keep up the fight!
All of Your positive thoughts are working with boosting their morale. Knowing how much they are loved, thought of and that everyone is pulling for them is making this battle easier on them and they are so thankful.Tomorrow, they have a few tests and some practice with the crutches in the morning and then they should be on their way home with some follow on medications and rest before their next round. Please keep the prayers and positivity coming folks! Keep spreading the word about the site. Be sure to check out the main page, some changes took place tonight when I was advised that my choices of YU_GI_OH Cards was lacking...."it must have been my thin candy shell" ;-) These new ones are allegedly the "Best" and there's one special one that KK should get a kick out of when he sees it! There's also about to be a new page for Kelton's Kancer Kickin' Kwilt , check that outin the very near future (like sometime today I hope) as there's going to be a short deadline to participate!!
More to come soon, Keep Kickin' it KK!!!
